Paint horses have won the hearts of many people around the world. Yet, their fame reached the pinnacle in the United States. Love for the breed united Americans of all incomes and backgrounds. The most devoted Paint horse lovers established a breed association. The APSHA (American Paint Stock Horse Association) appeared in 1962 with the objective of serving the Paint horse. Its members started work aimed at the preservation of the breed in its present form and keeping track of the breeding stock.
The number of APSHA members grew rapidly. This was not the case with another breed organization, the American Paint Quarter Horse Association, formed a few years later. It had to join the APSHA since its activities turned out to be a failure. The new organization was called the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) and is now one of the largest breed registries.
Paint Horses - Association Activities
The APHA has a number of affiliate clubs and associations and is doing much work to promote the breed. Breeders' education and guidance, research work concerning genetics and common breed diseases, registration, organization of races and shows, and other activities are all the concern of this association. APHA members do benefit greatly by registering their foals with this organization. The APHA offers a great number of services including free information on race and show results, pedigrees, performance records, progeny records, etc. Thus, the association is surely essential for the welfare of Paint horses.
