“Heavy” or draft horses are strong with large bones and sturdy legs. Their weight is up to 2000 pounds. Percherons, Drafts, Clydesdale and Shire horses belong to this group of horses. Other two groups are ponies and feral horses.

There are over 350 different known breeds of horses. These fall into four main groups. “Light” horses have small bones and thin legs. Their weigh is less than 1300 pounds.
